Summer is here, and with it come sunny days and warmer weather. This is the best time of the year to enjoy yourself outside and make the most of the perfect weather. With so much to do and enjoy, there’s nothing worse than catching a cold during the best days of the year and having to sit them out.
To avoid losing out on all of the fun things you could do outside, you should think about taking better care of your health. We’ve put together five simple, hassle-free tips for boosting your health so that you can make the most of the best days of the year.
Sign Up for Produce Boxes
A good diet is the foundation to good health, but not everyone has time or access to healthy food at their local grocery store. That’s why we’ve previously recommended services like Farmbox Direct which deliver top quality produce straight to your doorstep.
With a produce box delivery service, you can be sure that you’re getting regular deliveries of healthy food that’s in season. You can even customize the boxes according to your diet needs. There’s nothing better than enjoying some fresh veggies and fruits for an even better summer season.
Invest In Supplements
Supplements can seem kind of scary, especially if you haven’t given them much thought before. However, they’re actually a great way to make up for nutritional gaps in your diet. While you shouldn’t go overboard, picking the right supplement is a great way to make your body stronger and healthier.
There are a ton of different options out there, but if you want convenience, gummies are the way to go. Supplements like Brightcore’s ACV Gummies are easy to take and carry around, and can actually last longer than other varieties. Plus, these specific gummies taste even better than actual apple cider vinegar, so you can enjoy all the benefits without the vinegary taste.
Get Better Sleep
Summer is a great time for relaxing. Funnily enough, the best way to enjoy your R&R is to do more of it. The Mayo Clinic recommends seven to eight hours of sleep a night to keep your immune system up and running well.
How does lack of sleep affect your immune system exactly? Your body produces cytokines when you sleep, which is a protein that performs a variety of functions, including promoting better sleep and boosting your immune system. Lack of sleep can also cause your body to produce less of the antibodies and cells that fight off infection. So if you want to make the most of your summer, get some rest— literally.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Warm weather is great in moderation, but one of the downsides to the summer months is the heat. Heat waves or just regular bad habits can put you in danger of suffering from heat exhaustion, and in some extreme cases heat stroke. So what is the best way to avoid this? Hydrate, of course.
If you want to keep your hydration levels up during a hot summer, Samaritan Health Services says to drink water regularly and eat foods with a high-water content like watermelon and tomatoes. If you’re already suffering from heat exhaustion, make sure to take slow sips— gulping water too fast could lead you to vomit, and lose more hydration overall. Keep safe and hydrated!
Dress Light
Finally, one of the best things you can do for your health during summer is to keep it light. While summer fashions are usually good for this, it’s especially important to avoid layering and thicker fabrics during the hotter days. Getting overheated can lead to dizziness, dehydration, and heat exhaustion, which is bad news if you want to enjoy your summer.
NPR suggests to keep it smart but simple: if you’re exercising, the less clothing, the better. Forgo the track jackets and just stick with the basics. If you’re going to be out in the hot sun, then it’s better to have protection with long sleeves and sun visors, as long as your clothes allow enough air to pass through for evaporation.
Summer is meant to be savored, and the best way to do that is by taking care of your health. With the proper diet, nutrition, and habits, you can look forward to months of great weather and even better health. Be sure to check in with your doctor regularly if anything feels off, and keep cool and hydrated regularly.
Enjoy your summer fun!
