Dunkin’ Donuts is already the go-to shop for coffee and donut lovers in the country. Soon, Dunkin’ will also be on the radar of vegans and health-conscious people looking for quick and meatless breakfast eats.
Dunkin’ is introducing a meatless breakfast sandwich across the nation, following in the footsteps of several other large chain restaurants that now offer plant-based meat alternative options.
The large chain has stated that it will introduce the meatless sandwich to its nearly 9,000 locations on November 6th. That’s almost two months ahead of the company’s schedule, following a very successful stage of testing and prototyping.
The coffee and donut company first introduced the meatless sandwich in New York City this July. According to CEO Dave Hoffman, the sales of the vegan sausage sandwich performed much better than expected – more than double the expected sales to be exact. In fact, the Beyond Sausage Sandwich (a collaboration with Beyond Meat) is currently the second best-selling menu option in Dunkin Donut’s Manhattan locations, following closely behind the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel.
As people become more aware of the benefits of veganism and the environmental challenges we face, plant-based meat alternatives are becoming increasingly popular. In April of this year, Burger King introduced its Impossible Whopper, which has been well-received by customers. Furthermore, other large chain brands such as Subway, Little Caesars, and Del Taco have all introduced their own versions of plant-based meat alternative menu items.
For companies like Dunkin’, the popularity of plant-based meat alternatives means good business. For consumers, it means more available food options, especially when eating out. And for the earth and the animals, it means more compassion and the protection of animals and the environment.
