Following unprecedented sales performance, Del Taco will be releasing vegan burritos to the public.
The California-based Mexican fast-food chain stated that its Beyond Meat tacos, which featured Beyond Meat’s meat alternative crumbles, are now one of its best selling products in the history of the company. Since April of this year, Del Taco has sold nearly two million Beyond Meat tacos, making it one of the best-performing products on the menu.
Barry Westrum, Del Taco’s chief marketing officer, said, “The feedback from consumers has been overwhelmingly positive. Vegans and vegetarians have referred to them as ‘game-changers,’ because it has allowed them to visit Del Taco with friends and family for the first time – in some instances – in decades.”
To celebrate this major win for the company and the vegan industry, Del Taco is now introducing two additional plant-based burritos: the Beyond 8 Layer Burrito and the Epic Beyond Cali Burrito.
As expected, Del Taco is partnering with Beyond Meat for the plant-based meat alternatives used in these burritos.
The Beyond 8 Layer Burrito will feature Beyond Meat’s plant-based crumbles, slow-cooked beans, freshly diced tomatoes, lettuce, cheddar cheese, guacamole, sauce and sour cream wrapped in a flour tortilla.
The Epic Beyond Cali Burrito will feature Beyond Meat’s plant-based crumbles, french fries, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo in a flour tortilla.
Both burritos will be made available starting today, June 20th, following the successful launch of the Beyond Meat taco. As the first national Mexican fast-food chain to provide a plant-based protein to its menu, we can only expect its partnership with Beyond Meat to develop even further.
