If you’ve ever been to an IKEA store, then you know that this global furniture company is also known for having an impressive food court in their stores. Even better, IKEA makes an effort to offer mostly healthy and sustainable foods and beverages while minimizing food waste.
The newest addition to their lineup: vegan strawberry soft-serve ice cream.
This delicious dairy-free treat will be made available in all of IKEA’s Bistro menus across Europe within the month to come. According to IKEA, the new soft-serve ice cream is fruit-based, made primarily with strawberry puree, which means this delicious treat will have almost half the carbon footprint compared to dairy-based versions.
In a recent statement, Sandra Lindh, Commercial Manager for IKEA Food Services, said, “Our ambition was to create a plant-based treat that is as soft, airy and delicious as our popular dairy-based soft ice. It’s an easy, affordable and delicious treat for customers that either need or want to skip dairy products and prefer plant-based food options.”
The concept was originally introduced in Summer 2018 when the soft-serve, dairy-free ice cream was served at the Democratic Design Days in Älmhult and the HAVEN Festival in Copenhagen. It was well-received by all.
IKEA is already well-known for being a leader in creating sustainable products and foods. As they move forward, IKEA Food plans to continue inspiring others to live a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle through the offering of healthy and sustainable foods. The furniture giant will continue to work on their dairy-free soft serve ice cream, with plans to eventually offer this vegan treat on a global scale.
