The massively popular malt-based drink, Nestlé Milo has a global fanbase and the company has just recently launched a vegan-friendly version of it in Australia.
As a part of Nestle’s plans to bring in more plant-based offerings to their portfolio, one of their most iconic brands, Milo is their latest addition to the vegan bandwagon.
However, New Zealand and other countries will have to wait until the beginning of May 2020, a Nestle spokesperson confirmed in a media report.
To the surprise of a number of vegans, supermarket isles in Melbourne and other parts of Australia had tins of vegan friendly Milo stocked up, and ever since surprised vegans have been posting pictures online to share their excitement.
In terms of the product specifications, this vegan friendly energy drink will swap the dairy milk substance with soluble corn fiber and soy protein isolate, sunflower oil, and oat flour. The recommended amount has been stated as three teaspoons in hot or cold soy milk.
According to Nestlé, the company maintained the same core ingredients like cocoa, malt, and barley in this plant-based preparation, just with less added sugar. The product is being claimed to sustain the same coco-malt taste of the original.
A 395g tin will cost $7.30 in Australia with no reports as of now for New Zealand pricing.
Bonkers for the New Launch
Ever since buyers across Australia got to get their tin of the vegan Milo, they’ve shared their joy and excitement on social media.
“I could cry you guys, I am so happy,” one user wrote , adding “I’ve been vegetarian for most of my life and vegan for 7 years and this was my only pre-vegan love that I’ve never found a replacement for and as of TODAY! WE HAVE! VEGAN MILO!”
“People are looking to vary their diets with more plant-based options, including to lower their environmental footprint and for health reasons. We already have some great plant-based products and are now adding one of our biggest global brands with Milo,” Trevor Clayton, Nestle’s head of dairy business unit stated in a press release.
In the beginning of this year, Nestle launched the Nesquick GoodNes in the United States which is a plant based powder powered with oat and pea protein.
