In light of the SXSW (South by Southwest is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas) cancellation, the vegan community is coming together from the 13th-22nd to highlight the local vegan and vegetarian establishments during a free, city-wide plant-based food showcase.
For ten days, the Austin-local favorite restaurants/food trucks will be highlighted with a LIVE broadcast online from their kitchens as they demo their specialties.
This will serve as a chance for participants to see behind the scenes of how Austin chefs create some of their favorite plant-based dishes, to encourage residents to support local restaurants that have been affected by the SXSW cancellation, or for those considering their long term health in light of pandemic concerns (such as the impact of increasing vegetable intake on the rates of heart disease, which kills over 1,700/day in the US alone).
Participating food trucks and restaurants include Bouldin Creek Cafe, Rebel Cheese, ATX Food Co., Arloโs, Counter Culture, The Beer Plant, Sweet Ritual, Citizen Eatery, and Curcuma.
The final day will conclude on Sunday the 22nd at The Outpost Food Park with the Outpost Vegan Brunch, featuring The Vegan Nom, Happea Vegans, Sassy’s Vegetarian Soul Food and Bruja’s Brew Kombucha.
