- Dairy links to ill-health, global warming and animal cruelty given as key concerns
- “Plant-based protein powders will overtake whey protein within the next 10 years” says Founder of Raw Sport, Dean Howell
- Lactose intolerance also listed as a key reason for consumer switching
- Many customers ditching dairy after learning that whey is by-product of cheese
8th June, London, UK – Leading plant-based nutrition brand, Raw Sport, today announces new data revealing how over 70% of their customers, new and existing, are completely ditching dairy from their diets.
In the past year, from a survey of Raw Sport’s 50,000 customers, 72% of customers (new and existing) have said they are now completely dairy free. The main reasons given for making the switch (in order of popularity) are as follows:
- Negative health impact of dairy
- Dairy’s climate and environmental impact
- Cruelty and animal exploitation in the dairy industry
- Lactose intolerance
- Knowledge of how whey protein is a by-product of cheese
Commenting on the new customer data and move away from dairy, Founder of Raw Sport, Dean Howell, said: “The data is clear. We are in the midst of a ‘transition revolution’. A growing number of consumers don’t want to jeopardise their health, the environment or pay for animal exploitation when they purchase nutritional products. I have no doubt that plant-based protein powders will overtake whey protein within the next 10 years.
“We are proud to be a 100% vegan brand, offering high quality ingredients that benefit our customers and planetary health, without involving animals in any way. Plants give us all we need to thrive – there’s no need to get protein from any animal sources, especially from dairy.
“We are calling on all nutrition brands to join us and ditch dairy from their product ranges. Together, we can protect consumer health, our climate and animals. Just look at the data assessing the impact of dairy – it’s undeniable.”
This new message to the nutrition industry from Raw Sport follows the successful launch of a new tree-planting initiative. The partnership with Ecologi, a tree-planting and climate action funder, now ensures a tree is planted for every single Raw Sport product sold. Since launching in February, the initiative has now planted over 20,000 trees, with a target to plant over 100,000 in total before the end of 2021.
Commenting further, Dean Howell said: “We elected the most positive option available with Ecologi. Instead of committing to one tree with every order, which is the post popular option, we have gone one step further, promising to match a tree to every product purchased.”
As an example of the option Raw Sport has chosen: one order of three bags of ELITE Repair Protein Powder results in three trees planted, rather than just one matching the order.
The move by Raw Sport is just one of many initiatives in place to ensure the brand is a world-leader in sustainable nutrition. As one of the world’s leading plant-based (vegan) nutrition brands, the company has gone from strength to strength throughout 2020 and 2021 (now selling to 60 countries) and is on a mission to revolutionise the sports nutrition world. Raw Sport athletes now include professional footballers, premiership clubs, pro boxers, pro MMA fighters, world champions, Olympians, pro body builders, F1, strongmen, pro cricketers, pro tennis and squash players, models and celebrities.
