Stay warm and look fabulous without the fur! The luxury winter clothing giant Canada Goose made a hallmark move to stop buying fur by the end of this year and cease all manufacturing of fur products by the end of 2022.
The company has received much criticism from animal rights groups and activists for their use of wild coyote fur in their parka trims. Investigations and campaigns from leading organizations including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have revealed the heartbreaking conditions of coyotes trapped in cages to be killed for their fur. These efforts have only garnered more public support for fur-free campaigns.
“Our future is fur free,” the company said in a social media post that is receiving much support from around the globe. CEO of Humane Canada Barbara Cartwright said, “This is a significant step forward toward building a more humane and sustainable world. “We applaud Canada Goose’s commitment to end the use of all fur by late 2022 and the leadership position they are taking in their industry.”
This announcement is part of Canada Goose’s mission to become more sustainable. Earlier this year, Canada Goose released it’s sustainable parka line advertising a 30% decrease in carbon and 65% decrease in water inputs respectively.
Macy’s, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales are among the many major retailers who have hopped on the fur-free future with gusto! We hope these leaders amplify their commitment to the welfare of all Earthlings by dropping all animal products- including down, wool, silk, leather, etc. from their lines, and embrace the fast-growing plant-based textile industry!
