Iconic New York restaurant chain and food manufacturer, Golden Krust has announced they’re launching a veganized version of its widely popular Jamaican-style pastry pockets in select US locations and Canada.
Made with the Beyond Beef crumbles, these handmade pastry pockets will be offered in two versions- spicy and mild, for vegans. The 125-location Caribbean chain will initially offer this vegan delight in its New York City, Hartford, Boston, OH, and MA locations in the US and Toronto locations in Canada, according to media reports.
The offering will reportedly use the 30-years-old family recipe using the Beyond Beef crumbles and wrapped into a delightful pastry pocket.
“Beyond Beef was the perfect choice for our new patties since it is designed to look, cook and taste like ground beef, with all the benefits of plant-based protein,” Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Golden Krust, Alfred R. Novas said.
Golden Krust has so much confidence in the taste of their new product, CEO Novas was even quoted as saying, “We challenge you to tell the difference between our traditional beef patties and our new plant-based protein patties.”
The pastry pockets will be available only in the selected locations with plans to roll the product out into its 125 restaurants and 25,000 retail points across North America.
