Nostalgia, Whimsy, and Big Flavor Are on Display at the 397 Sq Ft Grab-n-Go Vegan Dessert Spot Opening Soon in the Near Southside Neighborhood of Fort Worth Dallas/Fort Worth, TX (March 6, 2023) – Dreamboat Donuts & Scoops (1204 6th Ave.), the highly anticipated vegan sweets shop from the team behind Spiral Diner & Bakery, announced its official opening in early April.
The shop’s hours of operation will be Tuesday – Thursday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Sunday from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. Executive Chef Parker Howard, a long mainstay of Spiral Diner, will oversee the plant-based dessert spot putting his creativity and palate forward in developing vegan sweets treats. The tiny 397 square- foot-spot will be jam-packed with flavor and whimsy – serving vegan delights like ice cream, soft serve, and every kind of donut necessary to satisfy the most discerning sweet tooth!
For over 20 years, the Spiral team has been experts in developing vegan, frozen deliciousness at the diner. The dessert spot will rotate six to eight ice cream flavors, combining classic and seasonal flavors.
Donut options will include yeast, cake, and filled donuts. Chef Parker has researched and developed a vegan, yeast-raised, gluten-free donut recipe – a rare treat for gluten-free foodies. The dreamy concept will utilize organic, non-GMO flour and sugar, unheard of in most donut shops. But there’s more, the brilliant minds behind the concept have developed even more cruelty-free, plant-based delights, including croissants, fritters (apple and blueberry), and donut-ice-cream variations like donut cakes, donut ice cream sandwiches, and donut sundaes.
When asked why he and the Spiral team chose to open a vegan donut and ice cream shop, Chef Parker said, “It’s simple; a love of donuts and the lack of availability and easy access to vegan donuts! We aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel but add and continue to improve every aspect. We want to create accessibility for those who don’t consume animal products and want sweets without the harm.”
He continued, “I have fond memories of a small donuts shop in Springfield, Illinois, where my dad would take me on Sunday mornings. Everybody has one of those memories and an immediate donut shop that comes to mind. We want to bring those memories to 2023 with vegan flavors and techniques to create fun donuts with a Spiral spin.”
Employing over a decade of experience at Spiral Diner & Bakery, Chef Parker has long developed the flavors and techniques behind Dreamboat Donuts & Scoops to please vegan and non-vegan donut and ice cream lovers alike. Patrons can expect yeast donuts that are deliciously yeasty with a slightly fermented tang and air pockets in the dough, made possible by cashew cream instead of eggs.
Dreamboat Donuts will have a crispy outside, fluffy, airy inside, and light sweetness, with most of the sweetness coming from glazes and frostings. Yeast donut flavors will include classics like traditional glaze and chocolate frosted and playful flavors like Maple Frosted, Matcha Ginger, and Earl Grey Lavender – all available upon opening.
Cake donut flavors include Classic cake, Blueberry cake with Lemon Glaze, Lemon Poppyseed, and Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. Patrons can also enjoy filled donuts like Raspberry Filled with Powdered Sugar and Cherry-Filled with Chocolate Frosting, among many others.
As a noteworthy inclusion, Dreamboat will pay homage to the late Jeremy Joel, a beloved Fort Worth community artist and dear friend to Spiral, with ‘The JJ’ – a yeast donut with peanut butter and Oreos.
The design was crafted by long-time collaborator and interior designer Kara Keith, the creative mind behind the upcoming Maiden: Fine Plants & Spirits and Denton Spiral Diner & Bakery. The exuberant and joyful space will feature white tile floors with multi-colored sprinkles, pink Formica countertops, and fun pops of color to enhance the multitude of flavors and sweet delights. Window shopping is a part of the experience for those strong enough to pass by the space and not treat themselves as the display case filled with vibrant donuts and desserts that will be viewable through every window.
The celebrations will mark the first opening of PS1200, the mixed-used development bringing new public space, apartments, retail, and Maiden: Fine Plants & Spirits – another long-awaited concept from the Spiral team – opening very soon.

ABOUT SPIRAL DINER
Spiral Diner was opened in 2002, out of a love for animals and the environment. The idea was that if people
could see that vegan food is delicious, then what excuses would they have not to give it a try?
Spiral quickly outgrew its original location, a small lunch counter near the convention center. The menu was
considerably smaller. Back then, Spiral only had five employees! In 2004, we relocated to a larger location on Magnolia Ave. that grew to be our flagship store and a Fort Worth Legacy.
In 2017 the owners decided it was time for a third location. They set their sites on Denton and quickly fell in
love with their space on E Hickory St. The Denton location quickly became a staple for Dentonites. Complete with a patio you can watch the sunset with your dog; this location, by design, incorporates all the best features of the other two stores.
Spiral Diner is one of the most unusual success stories in the restaurant world. A vegan restaurant that started in Cowtown and not only survives but thrives.
Spiral is for lovers.
Beyond the Spiral Diner & Bakery concept, the new projects underway are designed to expand the options
for plant-based culinary offerings in DFW. Elevating the idea of vegan cuisine is Maiden: Fine Plants and
Spirits — a small, fine-dining restaurant where the team will have the space to create an elaborate tasting menu
along with premium cocktails, fine wines, and craft beers. Through the creation of Maiden, the leadership team
at Spiral seeks to provide a fine dining experience for the tender-hearted and environmentally conscious eater
with an imaginative menu that uses modern cooking techniques to showcase what is possible with all vegan
ingredients. With the exquisite also comes comfort; Dreamboat Donuts and Scoops is a new vegan donut
shop currently in the works. Both concepts will be part of the PS1200 development currently under
construction at 1200 Sixth Ave in Fort Worth and are slated for completion in early 2023.
