Looking for a unique way to ring in the new year? Uplands PEAK Sanctuary is hosting an old-fashioned telethon – albeit virtual – devoted to all things vegan on December 31 from 9 a.m. to midnight ET. A blockbuster list of vegan experts will be highlighting each hour.
The complete schedule follows:

10:15-10:45 a.m.: Fun quick recipes with Lean Green Dad
11 a.m. – Noon: Ayurvedic tips for your healthiest year yet
12:15-1 p.m.: Vegan analysis of a children’s classic with Christopher Sebastian
2-2:45 p.m.: Achieving a vegan world by 2026 with Jane Unchained
3-3:45 p.m.: Healthy and decadent desserts with Colin McCullough
4-4:45 p.m.: Kids’ story time with Vegan Publishers
5-5:45 p.m.: Poetry and music with Berry

9-9:45 p.m.: Plant-Powered Party snacks and cocktails with Sharon Palmer, Plant-Powered Dietitian
10-10:45 p.m.: Laughing yoga with Therapists for Protester Wellness
11:15 p.m. – Midnight: Countdown Finale with vegan drag queen Honey LaBronx
Viewers will also have chances during the telethon to purchase tickets to watch a special viewing of The Last Pig, an award-winning documentary about a pig farmer’s ethical crisis, on January 1 between 12 and 4 p.m.
Tickets will be $10, half of which will be donated to PEAK.
In true telethon style, PEAK will have a big thermometer to track its journey to a $10K goal, and viewers will get regular updates in between segments. Anybody who donates $50 or more via bye2020.org will automatically become a 2021 PEAK Member (which includes perks like free admission to PEAK, 10% off anything in PEAK’s store and the eligibility to book the Retreat Suite or PEAK’s eco-friendly cabin). Other donations can be made through Facebook or at uplandspeaksanctuary.org.
The event will stream live to Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/uplandspeaksanctuary). PEAK is grateful to its sponsors for helping make this telethon a success: Mowgli Studio, Abe’s the Vegan Muffin, No Evil Foods, The Herbivorous Butcher, Amy’s Kitchen, PETA, Miyoko’s Creamery, Main Street Vegan Academy and Brewing Good Coffee Co. Uplands PEAK (people, earth and animals in kinship) Sanctuary, Indiana’s first farmed animal sanctuary, is located in Freedom, Ind., where it provides a safe home to 50 farmed animals, including pigs, cows, goats, chickens and turkeys, who otherwise would have been slaughtered for food.
The sanctuary also offers educational experiences and volunteer opportunities. It hopes that by raising awareness about the plight of farmed animals, it can inspire change for a kinder, more humane world.
