San Antonio is a melting pot of cuisines ranging from Asian-American food, Mexican fare, Italian, Thai, and even Raw Vegan options! Along with the city’s rich history, there is an abundance of vegan-friendly eats and experiences waiting to be enjoyed for any veg-curious explorer!
Here are our top favorite vegan eats we tried:
–@bestqualitydaughter 🍜 – this Asian American menu was not entirely vegan but incorporated a unique vegetable-forward list of options, ranging from oat milk-based Boozy boba drinks, Mapo Hummus with large rice-based crackers, to garlic noodles, and even mango sorbet! We were especially impressed with the quirky decor and focus on authentic Chinese flavors without the use of faux meats or cheeses.
–@strandedcoffeeclub featured vegan-friendly lattes and even pastries from local, all-vegan bakery @cakethievesbakery. We enjoyed a rainbow, cereal pop tart with our morning coffee!
–@margaritastortillafactory makes tamales and tortillas that can also be found in many Whole Foods stores. They recently relocated to San Antonio from Austin, Texas and makes everything in-house from their black bean and vegetable tamales to stone ground corn tortillas.
–@misschickpeasbakeshop is a 100% vegan bakery owned by husband and wife duo. They are known for having the best vegan kolaches around! We especially loved their dedication to not only making vegan pastries but also incorporating hispanic culture into their baking by making unique treats like gansitos and conches!
@project_pollo – this is the first vegan drive-thru in Texas with a mission to serve vegan chicken sandwiches reminiscent to Chik-Fil-A in hopes to close them down one day by providing a more compassionate version. The chickn sandwiches and vegan milkshakes are truly delicious and their drive-thru concept make being vegan more accessible and fun!
–@eatplantology – this is an entirely vegan and gluten free restaurant that is women and minority owned and a plethora of amazing food options like breakfast all day, matcha soft serve, loaded nachos, and even a bucket of vegan fried chicken!
–@kosmicveganmarketplace– this is a black, woman-owned all vegan grocery store that carries a unique inventory of all local and vegan crafts and food.
–@mellowsatx– Mellow Mushrooms are all over the nation and have been known to have many vegan friendly pizzas over the years by providing Follow Your Heart cheese along with tofu and many colorful vegetables and vegan-friendly pizza crusts! The San Antonio specific location even has their very own Vegan Menu that offers clearly laid out vegan pizzas, pretzels, and even vegan chicken wings with multiple dips and coating flavors!
–@akhanay_coffee_roasters– a Thai-cuisine coffee + food truck that has authentic drink and snack options that are made vegan in-house, such as layered nitro coffee with pandan milk, Thai tea with soy milk instead of condensed milk, and even veggie steam buns!
–@southtownjuice– is an all vegan juice bar that carefully crafts the most colorful smoothies and smoothie bowls that are literally overflowing with fresh fruits, nuts, seeds, and granola goodness!
We had the pleasure of staying at the @omnilamansiondelrio, a staple building in San Antonio built in the late 1800s, right on the river walk with a vegan friendly spa at @mokarahotelandspa that provided eco-friendly amenities.
Omni La Mansion Del Rio and Mokara Hotel & Spa are nestled along the iconic and romantic River Walk in San Antonio. The Four Diamond luxury hotels surround guests with the romance, grace and charm of a grand hacienda. The Omni La Mansion Del Rio was connected to the Mokara Hotel & Spa by a single bridge over the river that provided access to the amenities at both hotels, including dining and the spa.
Though we did not eat at the hotel’s cafes, we did get to enjoy the sustainable practices at the Omni La Mansion Del Rio as well as the relaxing amenities at Mokara Spa.
Both hotel and spa staff members were informative and helpful to make our vegan visit exactly what we needed to help ensure a more successful week ahead and sense of peace. All of their Signature Spa packages have the option to have vegan-friendly/cruelty-free Citrus Body Scrub and Aromatherapy Body Oils upon request.
Known for being the most highly acclaimed destination spa in the city, the Mokara Spa San Antonio has been honored as a top spa by both Travel & Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler as well as the 2021 Forbes Travel Guide named Mokara as the only “Four-Star Spa” in San Antonio. There is no doubt we will be back to stay in this ideal spot on our next San Antonio Vegan Adventure!
