New York, NY (10/6/20) – Matthew Kenney Cuisine, a plant-based lifestyle brand founded by celebrity chef, author and wellness entrepreneur Matthew Kenney, in partnership with wellness lifestyle and leading activewear brand Alo Yoga, will open SUTRA , a mainly raw, plant-based restaurant emphasizing innovative raw cuisine on the top floor of Alo’s Sanctuary in the Flatiron District of NYC on Friday, October 16.
Kenney’s biggest passion within the plant-based segment has always been elevated raw food, and this will be his first new full service raw restaurant in several years. SUTRA will serve elegant dishes in a minimalistic yet chic environment.

Sutra aims to provide a nourishing, health-forward menu in a modern yet serene oasis, an escape from the busy streets of NYC. The intention is to create a transformative and expertly executed experience from the moment you walk into the last bite. You are invited to express yourself and awaken your taste buds. Sutra will serve elevated dishes in a fine-dining setting, complete with a world-class menu of creative elixirs. Plant-based + pure, SUTRA’s menu is composed of source-driven, nutrient-dense foods served in a modern, urban escape. The clean and curative food transcends and heals. By preserving the natural integrity of the ingredients, each dish is balanced to inspire a meeting between the sensual and the sacred – mostly raw, and completely nourishing. The restaurant will initially open for lunch only for now, Wednesday through Sunday, and will be adding breakfast and dinner, as well as a full bar, in the weeks to come. The menu will include a few Matthew Kenney classics, accompanied by dishes that truly bring forth the experience of raw cuisine, including:

Matthew Kenney is one of the world’s first leading chefs at the forefront of plant-based cuisine, an author of 12 cookbooks and a best-selling memoir, a culinary educator and CEO of Matthew Kenney Cuisine. Kenney is thrilled to be partnering with ALO Yoga, as he himself is a wellness enthusiast and avid yoga practitioner. Kenney and his team will develop the menu and oversee all operations of the restaurant.

The opening of SUTRA is just one of many MKC restaurants arriving this year. With the upcoming opening of Hungry Angelina in Brooklyn, the second location of SESTINA in Los Angeles, and the recent opening of Baia and Woodblock in San Francisco. The MKC team also has plans to open a restaurant at the One & Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico, a wellness-inspired concept at AYRE in Palm Beach, Florida, along with several Hungry Angelina and Double Zero locations nationwide.
