Matthew Kenney Cuisine, the plant-based lifestyle brand founded by celebrity chef, author and wellness entrepreneur Matthew Kenney, opened Make Out Miami this past weekend, a casual marketplace and cafe located within the same building as Plant Food + Wine, the brand’s Flagship concept, set to open on mid-May. Both concepts occupy 3255 NE 1st Avenue, the previous host of Chef Christopher Slawson’s Thatch Miami, and will act as temporary installments prior to renovations later this summer, followed by re-openings in the Fall. As with all MKC restaurants, both PFW and Make Out are deeply rooted in sustainability, innovation and the future of food, representing the best of the MKC brand. While the original Plant Food + Wine – the Flagship culinary concept of MKC, located in Venice, CA – represents the best of seasonal Californian cuisine, the newest location will pay homage to the diverse culinary influences of Miami and the surrounding area.
The current space has a minimalist, colorful and sunny decor, with a bright, white-lit room featuring yellows and oranges in true South Floridian style. In addition to the main dining room, there is a marketplace area, where MKC’s Make Out concept will operate. With multiple locations throughout Culver City, CA and Providence, RI, the popular eatery fulfills the promise of “Everyday Plant Food” and features a menu of cold-pressed juices, smoothies, superfood coffee elixirs, tonics, and a wide array of raw dishes and desserts. Make Out Miami will offer a menu of creative plant-based bowls and salads, made to order, as well as a variety of grab n’ go options for those who need a quick and healthy meal on the move. Additionally, fans of Thatch won’t miss the incredibly popular plant-based ice cream, which is churned in small batches from fresh cashew and coconut milk, it will remain a staple and will be offered regularly.
As the Matthew Kenney Cuisine brand continues to expand throughout five continents, Miami is the company’s latest destination to make a culinary impact in the continuously evolving market for plant based cuisine. The current rendition of Plant Food + Wine Miami, the Residence, acts as a preview to an upgraded, custom-designed and original concept that will occupy the space come late Fall, 2022. Patrons can enjoy the best of MKC with this temporary installment of the company’s plant-based concepts in the present, while a completely original and never-before-seen concept is developed behind the scenes.
“We’re thrilled to bring Plant Food and Wine to Miami; this is one of my favorite cities, a beautiful playground of rich culinary heritage and fresh, nourishing ingredients,” Kenney said. “Our artistic vision has always been to create an upscale, memorable dining experience, where food is not only beautiful and flavorful, but also incredibly healing and nutritious.”
The menu at Plant Food and Wine is created to appeal to everyone, not just those leading a plant-based lifestyle. The menu itself is clearly and unapologetically that of a Matthew Kenney restaurant and includes creative renditions of Kenney’s classic dishes, including the iconic heirloom tomato lasagna and coconut cream pie. In addition to the food, the restaurant will offer a selection of plant-based, organic cocktails infused with both exotic and local flavors, as well as a selection of regionally-sourced beer and wine. From the menu at Plant Food and Wine Miami, guests can expect dishes such as:
- HEIRLOOM TOMATO + ZUCCHINI LASAGNA. Sun-dried tomato marinara. Macadamia ricotta. Pistachio pesto;
- KELP NOODLE CACIO E PEPE. Snap peas. Pea sprouts. Crispy oil cured olives;
- COCONUT BANANA CREAM PIE. Coconut cream. Macadamia
From the Make Out Cafe menu, now available, enjoy a selection of MKC favorites as well as additional brand new dishes from the Matthew Kenney Test Kitchen. Gluten-free options are copious.
- A SELECTION OF CASHEW-BASED ICE CREAM. Vanilla bean. Ocean Salted Caramel. Java Chaga Chip. Blue Majik Cookies & Cream.

“We’ve built a dynamic team committed to sourcing the freshest ingredients available, while using modern and classic techniques to create the best plant-based experience for all,” says Kenney.
