For thousands of years, humans have looked to the sky as a source of guiding light and inspiration. The new moon, or the point in the lunar cycle where the moon’s invisible in the sky, represents a clean slate of sorts. Take inspiration from that new beginning and incorporate it into your meditation practice!
Try one or more of these meditation techniques next time the new moon rolls around. You may find yourself feeling rejuvenated and energized, ready to tackle new projects as the lunar cycle begins anew.
Affirmations
Sit somewhere quiet and comfortable, and begin your meditation with three deep, cleansing breaths. The night of a new moon is a great time to speak affirming words into existence, especially if you’ve struggled with your self-image in the past. Try one or more of these affirmations:
- “I am loved and supported by the universe.”
- “I open myself to new possibilities.”
- “I radiate positivity, grace, and wholeness.”
Tip
Phrase your affirmations as if they are already true statements, as opposed to attributes you wish you had. Think “I am” or “I do,” not “I want” or “I wish!”
Ritual Bath
Incorporate a cleansing element into your new moon meditation by dipping into a warm bath, perhaps perfumed with essential oils that hold a special meaning for you. Cleansing meditations are a great way to take advantage of the new moon’s energy and wipe your mental slate clean.
As you bathe, meditate on new projects you want to start or habits you want to try. Take all the time you need to get your body clean from head to toe; you’ll emerge feeling refreshed and renewed.
Intention Setting
Because the new moon is a time of new beginnings, why not set intentions to begin new projects or habits? Meditate on the following questions:
- “What do I want to see more of in my life?”
- “What kind of energy do I want to attract to myself?”
- “What could I use less of in my life?”
Think about your new moon intentions as resolutions or goals. What can you do to manifest positive changes in your life? As you take deep, cleansing breaths, set intentions to make those changes happen, whether you want to kick a bad habit or begin a good one.
Grab your calendar and mark the new moon dates every month. When the night of a new moon arrives, try these meditation techniques to remind yourself of your goals and set intentions to achieve them.
