While Experts Say 60% of Meat Will No Longer Come From Animals By 2040*, Heura Takes Steps To Accelerate The Movement By 2030
Barcelona, January 20 – Heura, Europe’s fastest-growing plant-based meat company, today announced its more than doubled the number of households that consume Heura vs. last year, paving the way for this mission-driven company to uproot the current food system and elevate it into one that’s better for the planet, people and animals. Founded in 2017 by food activists Marc Coloma and Bernat Añaños, the company closed 2021 with €17.7 million in turnover, up from €8 million in 2020. With it’s most successful year in its nearly five-year history, Heura has expanded its reach to 20 countries, up from 13 just last year.
Capstones catapulting the company into the new year, include it’s entrance into the largest retailer in the world, Walmart; a €16m Series A investment round led by Impact Fooding, as well as football players Chris Smalling, Sergi Roberto and Cesc Fábregas, and the launch of three new products, including Nuggets, Sausage and Chorizo.
As a company rooted in activism, Heura is also proud of the positive impact it’s had on both the environment and animal welfare over the past year. In 2021, the company saved:
- 634,403,142 litres of water, the equivalent of 9,635,258 baths
- 1,415,237 kg of Co2 emissions, the equivalent of 5,802,472 km driven by car
- 80,280 animal lives
With the core of its business dependent on the Good Rebel employees committed to driving positive change, Heura has grown from a team of just 38 in 2020 to 100 employees, located across Spain, France, Italy and the UK. A special focus has been placed on the Heura Tech Rebels, the company’s highly credentialed R&D team, which quadrupled in size over the past year.

With the mission to create animal meat successors, Heura is committed to breaking new ground in tech innovation. The company will continue its laser focus on developing innovations that cascade across the product line to create the most delicious and healthy plant-based meats available. It’s unique, 100% olive oil fat analog will remain center stage, while its commitment to clean labels and high nutritional profiles will drive up to 10 new product launches in 2022.
Having already established itself as the preferred plant-based meat brand in Spain, with rapid expansion across the UK, France and Italy, Heura is committed to creating an international presence reaching new markets. It will also continue to prioritize achieving price parity, to help make plant-based foods more accessible to all.

Heura’s rapid expansion comes at a time where the plant-based sector as a whole is expected to reach a staggering $480.43 billion globally by 2024, according to a recent report from BIS research.
