Following the trend that we’ve been seeing in the last two years, Papa John’s is now making plans to add a few vegan options to its menu, starting in the United Kingdom.
Currently, the massive pizza chain Papa John’s is recruiting for a new position, called a Chief Vegan Officer (CVO), to assist in adding a few vegan options to the menus in the United Kingdom. A completely new role, the Chief Vegan Officer will serve as an aid to Papa John’s Head of Research and Development in the company’s pursuit to offer more delicious vegan options to the menu by the year 2020.
Once hired, the new Chief Vegan Officer will be tasked with informing the research and development team of any new up-and-coming trends in the vegan and plant-based food world. Rather than adding typical simple vegan options, such as salad, Papa John’s is setting out to stay ahead of the curve. “With the launch of several new vegan menu items this year, including vegan Sheese—which flew out the door as soon as it hit the menu—it’s clear that there is a huge appetite for more exciting plant-based offerings,” Marketing Director Giles Codd explained.
While this is a huge step for the company, it isn’t Papa John’s first experience with vegan menu items. Only earlier this year, the pizza chain introduced three vegan pizzas – made with dairy-free Sheese by Bute Island Foods – to 350 of its United Kingdom locations. The pizza options were so popular, that the company sold out of the vegan cheese in less than 24 hours after the initial launch.
After the vegan pizza launch, the company introduced a few vegan appetizers as well, such as the Cheesy Vegan Potato Wedges and Vegan Jalapeno Cheesy Potato wedges.
If you’d like to be considered for the role of Chief Vegan Officer (arguably the coolest job to have), you must have a background in food technology, a degree in food science, and a natural passion for vegan and plant-based foods.
