Major pizza chain Pizza Hut says it would like to ditch dairy from all it’s offering by 2030 in a bid to become carbon neutral in their UK businesses.
Pizza Hut Restaurant, UK’s Senior Menu Innovation Manager, Ciara Grace revealed that the chain would eventually ditch dairy cheese for all its offering and go after plant-based ones for all the UK outlets.
The UK division of the chain told Plant Based News about the ambitious plan that could manifest, however, not in the ‘near future.’ Regardless, the chain has revealed it is dedicated to evolving their practices and processes in line with making a more ‘positive impact’.
Pizza hut has just recently unveiled their newest vegan addition which is a plant-based stuffed crust, the company unveiled at an event in London this week. The new stuffed crust employs Volife’s alternative cheese. The recent menu of the chain reflects a growing addition of vegan offerings including new vegan cheese pizzas, starters, and desserts.
In their sustainable plans for the UK business, the pizza chain looks forward to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and including more plant-based offerings is a part of the plan.
“This is a stepping stone towards [achieving the goal of becoming carbon neutral],” Grace said pointing to Pizza Hut’s Cheesecake that now has a dairy-free replacement. “This is our only cheesecake on the menu, it replaced our dairy cheesecake, and we’ve had so many positive comments from it,” she told about the new option.
Vegan Options That Non-Vegans Would Love!
A spokesperson told Plant Based News, that the company is proud of their vegan offering. Although the company doesn’t look forward to replacing dairy cheese anytime soon, they are always looking forward to innovating and test new products. “This includes our current trial of dairy-free mayonnaise in our Salad Bar and also the potential for future trials of cheese blends,” the spokesperson told.
Pizza Hut isn’t the only popular consumable brand that is inclining to a vegan offering. Last year Domino’s, one of Pizza Hut’s competition agreed that rumors surrounding the pizza chain working on a vegan pizza were true. A spokesperson told last year “We’re not quite there yet, but vegan pizza lovers shouldn’t have to wait much longer.”
Plant-based options recently have taken steep climbs when it comes to mimicking the taste, texture and overall feeling of the replacement. There has been an unprecedented rise in the plant-based food sector both in the US and the UK, according to a report.
