While COVID-19 may have cast a dark shadow over much of the culinary industry, plant-based establishments are seemingly thriving. In fact, the chefs and restaurateurs of Charlotte, North Carolina have responded to the demand for vegan options with a myriad of new places to grab a plant-based bite to eat.
Romeo’s Vegan Burgers, a Charlotte-based, Black-owned vegan food truck, has amassed a cult following in the mere three months it has been open. Rain or shine, vegans and non-vegans alike have turned out in droves, waiting for hours for the increasingly famous burgers, fries, and milkshakes that the food truck has to offer.
Started by Lamont Heath and musician Tigo B, Romeo’s Vegan Burgers’ swift ascent to success is a shining example of the rapidly evolving plant-based landscape.
Romeo’s Vegan Burgers isn’t the only new vegan eatery in town. In the past year alone, plant-based options for Charlotte residents and visitors have sky-rocketed, with at least a dozen new restaurants and food trucks hitting the scene.
