While we can’t know when every weather-related disaster will strike—such as earthquakes, floods, or fires—we can always be prepared, especially when it comes to our pets. More than 85 million families, or 67 percent of households, in the United States have at least one pet in their home. With hurricane season on the rise and wildfires and smoke blanketing the West Coast, being prepared is more pertinent now more than ever.
World Animal Protection, a global animal welfare nonprofit has been rescuing animals in disasters for more than 50 years. They have put together a helpful video with a checklist everyone can use to help keep their pets safe during a disaster.
To be sure that you have your pet prepared, have the following ready to grab and go:
· Carriers, Leashes, and Identification
· Medical records
· Current photos
· Vaccines and shots
· Food and supplies
