The startup will be debuting fresh plant-based meat and seafood ravioli featuring their koji-based proteins in five delicious flavors. The exciting lineup will include “chicken” and black truffle ravioli; “bacon” and butternut squash ravioli; “chicken,” pesto, and sun-dried tomato ravioli, Italian “sausage” ravioli, and “lobster” ravioli.

How long have you been working on a vegan lobster alternative?We started as a company four years ago, really focused on developing the best seafood alternatives. Our goal is to have the best seafood flavors in town that everyone will really enjoy. It’s been an exciting ride to get to our first seafood product launch, especially one that is truly indistinguishable. We have the best and one of the only plant-based lobster products on the market. It’s exciting to be part of the next frontier of plant-based meat and seafood products. Our plant-based lobster ravioli offers the same taste and texture as the real thing, without the health, ethical, and environmental downsides of conventional seafood products.
As a community-driven brand, all of our new product lines are voted on by members in our community who are excited about plant-based meat alternatives. After speaking with thousands of foodies, we discovered that ravioli was the ultimate comfort meal that people craved and wanted to enjoy in a fresh, convenient, ready-to-heat, plant-based meat and seafood format. 59% of Americans eat pasta on a weekly basis and we’re making it possible to enjoy the comfort classics you know and love through plant-based versions of hard-to-replicate traditionally meat-based foods.
All of our products are made with Koji, a Japanese superfood and a healthy whole food source of protein. The meaty, umami-rich koji is often found in haute-cuisines and used by Michelin-starred chefs. For us, koji is the star ingredient that delivers a no-compromise product with the all natural texture and taste of meat. With koji, we are able to create any plant-based product you can think of!
Who would you say is mostly your target audience- vegans or meat-eaters?All eaters, our mission is to nourish the masses which means making a product that resonates with meat-eaters and flexitarians. A lot of people in our community are flexitarians and omnivores – so people who eat meat but want to reduce their meat intake. We understand that for most people it isn’t realistic to cut meat out completely. Starting small, for example, cutting meat once a week can make a positive impact! Our products provide meat and seafood alternatives that taste like the real thing, have as much protein, and with a fraction of the carbon footprint.
Through convenient, delicious, and hard-to-replicate comfort foods you know and love, we’re making it easier than ever to reduce your meat consumption, eat more veggies, and make sustainable climate-smart food choices. We’ve had many people write to us telling us about how they didn’t realize plant-based could be this delicious or healthy while also keeping them full and happy. You can pursue a plant-forward or plant-based diet and still have bacon, chicken, and beef. It just doesn’t have to come from an animal, though it can still have the taste, texture and nutrition that you know and expect from meat and seafood.
How would you say your food helps save the planet?The meat industry has put a hefty burden on the environment. Greenhouse gases from animal agriculture account for more global warming than transportation. Reducing our population’s meat consumption to save the planet has never been more crucial. At Prime Roots, we believe that we can feed the world in a way that is truly sustainable and that nourishes people and the planet. There is a lower environmental impact with every bite than by eating a non-plant based meat product, saving on land, energy, water & greenhouse gas emissions. We make protein better and delicious and make it easier to eat plant-based by making the products that you know and love and that are convenient.
As someone who deeply cares about the environment and the well-being of human and planetary health, our goal is for foodies to still enjoy the pleasure and familiarity of eating meat but in a healthier and sustainable way that doesn’t destroy the environment.
