If you’re a big fan of Starbucks but have been wishing that they’d offer more vegan options, you’re in luck.
Recently, the almost 50-year-old coffee megachain set a goal to be “resource positive”, which means that the coffee chain will be embarking on several missions to reduce its impact on the environment. Amongst several other actions, Starbucks plans to add more vegan options to its menus.
Soon, you may find more new vegan or plant-based items on the menus at all Starbucks locations. In a recent public statement, Kevin Johnson––CEO of Starbucks––announce that the coffee chain has five commitments toward being resource positive that it will take into action:
Adding more plant-based options to offer a more sustainable and environmentally friendly menu,
Reducing or eliminating the use of single-use plastics and introducing reusable packaging instead,
Investing in regenerative agriculture,
Strategizing to reduce waste and improve waste management, and
Improving the sustainability and eco-friendliness of its Starbucks physical locations.
In the statement, Johnson said, “As we approach the 50th anniversary of Starbucks in 2021, we look ahead with a heightened sense of urgency and conviction that we must challenge ourselves, think bigger and do much more in partnership with others to take care of the planet we share. Today, I’m excited to be able to share with you our commitment to pursue a bold, multi-decade aspiration to become resource positive and give more than we take from the planet.”
The coffee chain has already been taking action to improve its menu, planning to add several meat alternatives and even adding oat milk to it’s Midwest U.S. locations.
