In order for the vegan movement to continue to grow and thrive, it’s important that big names in society influence the masses toward a vegan future.
Well, despite his controversial background––full of ebbs and flows in the amount of support he receives––Kanye West is no doubt a very influential person in society, especially in the fashion and music cultures.
The musician’s newest silhouette of Yeezy shoes––his ongoing collaborative effort with shoe brand Adidas––is expected to be made without the use of any animal-derived materials. Instead, Kanye’s new Yeezy shoes will be made with a blend of petroleum-based ethylene-vinyl acetate as well as a foam made of algae.
The new Yeezy silhouette is Kanye’s leading act in attempting to steer the sneaker and fashion industries toward a more eco-friendly future. In addition to the new shoe, the Yeezy brand plans to collect a mix of plant-based materials, such as cotton, algae, and hemp, from more than 4,000 acres of land that surrounds its headquarters located in Cody, WY.
Kanye’s new Yeezy silhouette––which he refers to as “the Apple of apparel”––was introduced by Kanye and lead designer Steven Smith as a beige-colored prototype during a recent Innovation Festival.
In a recent interview, Kanye explains that the goal of the brand is to “be responsible from A to Z in what happens.” he continues, “We’re getting into how we can have less impact with the dyes, because our color is a big signature of the brand, but also dyeing is one of the main things that’s impacting the planet in the fashion industry.”
If you’re interested in the new Yeezy silhouette, you can expect it to become available for purchase in 2020. The Yeezy shoe will be entirely produced in the United States.
