A new act – called the Humane Cosmetics Act – was introduced recently by a group of senators (including the vegan presidential candidate Cory Booker). It is now in front of Congress for consideration.
Earlier this week, new legislation seeking to eliminate the testing of cosmetic products on animals––called the Humane Cosmetics Act––was presented to the United States Senate group. The Humane Cosmetics Act was presented by a bipartisan senator group that includes Senator Cory Booker (a vegan presidential candidate), Senator Rob Portman, and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.
Cruelty Free International, an animal rights advocacy group, has been working with companies and legislators all around the world to put an end to animal testing, including cosmetic testing. In a recent statement, CEO of Cruelty Free International Michelle Thew said, “Cruelty Free International applauds this renewed effort to bring an end to animal testing for cosmetics across the United States that will match the progress that we have seen around the world as consumers, companies, regulators, and advocates come together to achieve a common goal of ensuring that animals no longer suffer for the sake of cosmetics anywhere,”
Cruelty Free International isn’t the only group that has stepped up to support the act. Three other groups–– Personal Care Products Council, The Humane Society of the United States, and the Humane Society Legislative Fund–– have all joined forces to further support the act’s progression into legislation.
In a joint statement, the three groups informed that they “look forward to working with a bipartisan group of congressional leaders, and other key stakeholders, to help enact the Humane Cosmetics Act in this Congress.”
If the Humane Cosmetics Act becomes a mandate, this would mean a massive victory toward the ultimate end of cruelty to animals.
