Did you miss the screening of The Game Changers on September 16th? If so, you’re in luck! The Game Changers, a new film executive produced by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan and directed by Oscar-winner Louie Psihoyos that documents the explosive rise of plant-based eating in professional sports, debuted on Netflix on October 16th.
Prior to being available on Netflix, the film was screened in theaters around the world for one night, after which it became digitally available for purchase on iTunes. With its Netflix debut, the film will be accessible for viewers around the world to stream in the comfort of their own homes.
The film, featuring some of the world’s top athletes, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kendrick Farris, Dotsie Bausch, and Lewis Hamilton, follows James Wilks, an elite special forces trainer and winner of “The Ultimate Fighter”, as he travels around the world to find the truth about the dangerous myth that meat consumption is necessary for protein, strength, and optimal health.
The popularity of plant-based eating is on the rise, with it becoming more mainstream every day. Plant-based options are popping up in sit-down and fast-food restaurants alike, with Del Taco, Carl’s Jr., Burger King, and KFC all jumping on board the plant-based wagon.
Many people are becoming aware of the benefits that a plant-based diet offers, and with the debut of a major motion picture such as The Game Changers, it can be expected that even more awareness will be brought to this way of eating and more people will follow a plant-based diet not only for health, but also for performance.
In regards to eating a plant-based diet for health and performance, James Collier, the head of nutrition and co-founder of Huel, the fastest growing nutrition company in the world, has stated ,“Most of us eat too much meat, especially strength athletes and bodybuilders who have been advised to consume large amounts of protein predominantly from meat, eggs and whey. Sure, strength athletes do require more protein than the average person, but they simply don’t need the huge amounts they often consume as long as they’re getting a good intake of energy from carbs and fat. There are misconceptions about plant-based proteins in that people claim that they are inferior to meat, eggs and dairy, which isn’t the case. Plant-based diets are often rich in complex carbs, providing energy for exercise. Whole-grains and vegetables are also often slow-released providing sustained, efficient energy release with performance benefits.”
