NoChicken Nuggets, NoChicken Burger, NoBeef Burger and NoBeef Crumbles Are Steppingstone Products for Consumers’ Growing Interest in Plant-Based Proteins
Joining the $7 Billion* plant-based retail market is newcomer VeganUs, a startup that offers chicken and beef alternatives for home chefs and the foodservice industry. In development since 2019, VeganUs was founded by two long-time vegans, David K. Mao, Ph.D. and Jessie J. Cheng. The launch comes at a time when consumer demand is growing rapidly for plant-based proteins. The first collection includes four frozen products – NoChicken Nuggets, NoChicken Burger, NoBeef Burger and NoBeef Crumbles – that require minimal preparation and are all free of meat, dairy, egg, garlic, onion, GMOs, trans-fat, and cholesterol. All four VeganUs products are Non-GMO Project Verified and Certified Plant Based by the Plant Based Food Association.
“While VeganUs is still young, we are committed to being part of the growing movement to make plant-based food available to the widest audience possible,” says Mao. “We created food that is craveable and delicious from all things non-animal. VeganUs is about nurturing your relationship with food and our planet. Ideally, it’s about making healthier dietary choices for the Earth and oneself all the time, but even occasionally would be a stepping stone towards success.”
About the Products:
- The NoChicken Nuggets are an excellent source of plant-based protein and can be prepared in minutes. These crispy, tender, and chewy nuggets are breaded to perfection. They come in an 8.8 oz. pack.
- The NoChicken Burger offers 13 grams of soy-based plant protein in each 4 oz. burger. Sold in a two-pack, the NoChicken Burger has the same texture and taste of “white meat”.
- The NoBeef Burger packs in 16 grams of meaty soy-based plant protein in each 4 oz. burger. Beet juice extract gives each patty its red juicy center. The NoBeef burger is sold in a two-pack and will sizzle on a grill.
- The NoBeef Crumbles are pre-seasoned and ready to cook. They come in an 8.8 oz. pack, offering the same versatility of ground beef.
Studies have shown that shifting from animal proteins to plant-based proteins has many health and environmental benefits. Adopting a predominantly plant-based diet may significantly reduce incidence and severity of various chronic illnesses, according to several studies presented at the American Society for Nutrition’s Nutrition 2018 conference. In a recent study of front-line healthcare workers in six countries, those who followed a plant-based diet have 73% lower odds to develop moderate-to-severe COVID-19 illness when compared with those who do not.** In addition, leading statistics correlate the change in diet and lifestyle to reducing one’s environmental footprint by preserving water and land as well as lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Finally, it’s cruelty-free and prevents the unnecessary pain and suffering of animals raised for consumption.
VeganUs aims to make quality plant-based food accessible not just for vegans, but for everyone. Through delicious, easy-to-prepare items that taste like the “real thing”, they hope to serve as a stepping stone for those considering a diet/lifestyle change. “I have always subscribed to the theory that small changes, compounded over time, have big results,” says Cheng. “Everyone is on a different health and life journey. We at VeganUs are determined to make the process easier by providing food that is as delicious as it is easy to make.”
Commercial production of VeganUs products is starting soon, with the first shipment expected to be available in market early 2022.
