We Animals Media (WAM) has launched a free new world-class stock site of animal photojournalism, spurred by the growth of interest in issues around animals and the environment. The site offers over 10,000 photos and videos from more than twenty professional photojournalists across seventy countries that document the intersection of animals with many of the major issues of our day: climate change, pollution, food policy, and public health. WAM’s stock site has been created to meet the needs of journalists and news teams who need access to high-quality editorial material that is often very difficult to source.
Animal photojournalism (APJ) is an emergent editorial genre of photography that captures, memorializes and exposes the experiences of animals kept hidden by exploitative industries and practices, many of them tied to other major issues. As individuals and societies across the world awaken to the devastating consequences of these practices, APJ is fast moving into the mainstream of newsgathering and storytelling.
The founder and president of WAM, renowned animal photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur, explains, “It’s a very exciting time to be working in the growing field of animal photojournalism. The thousands of visuals we provide are critical contributions to animal stories at this time in history. We Animals Media helps advance important conversations in media, classrooms, law, science, and policy. There’s nowhere I’d rather be working.”
The site’s core features make the user experience straightforward:
- Fast and simple user registration
- Streamlined licensing + download
- Curated galleries of popular visuals
- Sharable user-made collections
- Detailed information for every visual
- Advanced search capabilities for veteran users
